Enticing opportunities: The role of Industrial Partnerships in a shifting economic landscape.

The Abu Dhabi International Offset Conference (ADIOC 2009), which brought together officials and experts from over 30 countries around the world, has concluded on a very positive note.

ADIOC was held in Abu Dhabi at the Emirates Palace Hotel under the aegis of General His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

It was hosted by the Offset Program Bureau (OPB) and organized by the Global Offset & Counter-trade Association (GOCA) and UK’s Aerospace, Defence & Security Group (ADS). Advanced Integrated Systems, the first Emirati company to present fully integrated homeland security solutions, acted as the conference’s headline sponsor.

The event was held under the theme: “The Future of Industrial Partnerships”, which reflected the goal of examining the status of diverse offset programs in the region, industrial cooperation, current trends, challenges and best practices.

In the event’s final day, H.E. Saif Mohamed Al Hajeri, CEO of the Offset Program Bureau said “Our ambition is to build knowledge-based manufacturing industries for the UAE. The UAE’s offset policy is a framework to guide our actions. It has evolved to meet the needs of the UAE and to embrace the skills and experience of the international defense community.”

Participants in the two-day conference brought their experiences to a close with presentations and discussions focusing on the latest trends in the offset and counter-trade industry, and the growing role of industrial partnerships boosting global trade. The event also represented an opportunity to exchange expert views and to share best practices in offset’s core principles such as economic diversification, FDIs, technology transfer, fair trade, and joint cooperation.

“The conference had a record turnout for any offset event, not nationally or regionally but on an international level too,” said Saif Ali Al Marzooqi, Associate Director for Corporate Communication at the OPB.

He continued “We are delighted that people in the industry recognize ADIOC as the place to find out about the latest offset trends, to discover future prospects of Industrial partnerships and to take advantage of the incomparable networking opportunities with key industry leaders.”

The conference closed on an upbeat note, with a unanimous commitment to work toward bolstering offset policies and regulations to serve the ultimate goals of industrial partnerships.

ADIOC 2011 was timed to coincide with the International Defence & Conference Exhibition (IDEX 2011), scheduled to be inaugurated on Sunday.
